Canadian tax dollar in augmented reality

Canadians, like others around the world, are grappling with the impact of a major global recession  and just as any other government, the Canadian government started funding several projects to keep the economy going. Did you ever wonder which projects are being funded by the Action Plan Canada initiative? Well there are over 6500 projects that receive funding from this initiative, chances are that there are a few in your community or city.

NetKnowledge.ca released a new augmented reality application that allows you to find this information on your mobile phone. By just looking through the camera of your phone you'll see all the funded projects around you. This application overlays your view of the real world with markers, these markers represent government funded projects. By selecting a marker you'll get to see more details, such as cost and a short description.
Now you can point your phone in any direction and see the closest recipients of your tax dollars.

This is a very easy way to view this information and as I am writing this I see that the next sky train station received over a million for reconstruction and the bridge a head also received funding. This new application will make it very easy for Canadian tax payers to see where their tax dollars are going.

The application is a plugin for Layar. Layar is successful new augmented reality application  for the Iphone 3GS and Android phone.IPhone 3GS or Android users can install Layar for free and then search for Canada.  Then launch the action plan Canada layer and  you can see the effects of the funding program in your own neighbourhood.
